First Day of Preschool

Another milestone reached. When we sent the girls to school a year ago, Moose was too young to join them. He didn't realize that he wasn't going until the morning of the first day of school. Julie got the girls ready and Moose filled his little backpack with a few toys and a tennis ball. When Moose didn't get dropped off with his sisters he was furious.

A year has passed since then and it's now time for preschool. Far from having any kind of separation anxiety, he charged right into the school when I dropped him off without so much as saying goodbye to me.

After school, we were heading home in the van and I couldn't wait to hear about all the fun things he did. I figured he would feel the same way:

Me: "Moose, what did you do today?"
Moose: "Nothing."

After a bit of badgering, I finally got out of him that he "colored and learned." Learned about what? Nothing.

Moose Gets His Birthday Wish

Moose isn't quite at the age yet where he gets demanding around his birthday. He happens to be at the age where he makes demands no matter the time of year.

For the past several weeks, he has been telling his mother and me, "I want dollars and coins!"

He turned 4 just the other day and got what he asked for: dollars and coins. He got several dollar bills, a card with quarters taped all over, and a bag full of plastic pirate treasure coins.

He's over the moon for now, at least until he figures out what he wants next.

Mom's Name

Recently my aunt Julie came to town with her family.
When we were together Julie approached Moose and said, "Your mom and I have the same name."
Moose said, "Your name is Julie with Park Lane?"

Moose Spells a Web Site

Today Moose was arranging his refrigerator magnets. When he was done, he said, "Hey Dad, look. It says 'I love you.org.'

Peek-a-Boo - Moose Style

Julie had the kids recently when she visited her sister in Idaho falls. While the group was setting off 4th of July fireworks, Julie was playing peek-a-boo with Moose with a blanket they had.
"Where's Moose?" Julie would say, then find him under the blanket.
When it was Moose's turn to "find mommy," Julie hid under the blanket and Moose asked, "Where is that stinkin' old lady?"
I'm afraid Moose had played peek-a-boo with mommy for the last time.

Moose Learns a Money Lesson

Today we went to the dollar store where Moose found a mylar balloon he really wanted. I told him we were not there to get a balloon, but Moose protested and said he would pay for it.
I asked him, "How are you going to pay for it?"
Moose replied, "I just need a credit card, Dad."
